Looking for some tips to help you stay healthier? Kent Chiropractor team members have put together this list of helpful back and neck safety tips to help you stay safe this holiday season:1. Be mindful of long rides. Travel is a big part of the holiday season and for many that means long hours of sitting in a car, bus, or plane.

This often causes pain and stiffness in your spine. Do this to minimize the damage. Stand up and stretch or walk to help avoid a stiff back. Check your seat cushions and take along a good back support pillow to keep your spine straight. This will also improve your comfort during long periods of sitting in a seat.

An adhesive heat patch can help maintain your muscles loose and prevent stiffness.

2. Use caution in a new place. If you are visiting family you have not seen in a long time be mindful of their home and how it is set up.

New places are different from what you are used to at home and different items make falls much more likely. Weather changes can cause a new set of problems, too. Be careful of freezing snow, rain or ice and walk much slower than normal. Be aware of where you are stepping.

3. Be sure to take along your medical and supply bag when you travel away from home. Include all pain pills and medications. Take along your walker or cane in case you have a problem. Use your back brace if necessary. Be honest with your family or friends and let them know you need to rest a bit when you arrive.

Taking an hour to care for yourself after you arrive can make the rest of your trip much more enjoyable. Take what you need to care for yourself.
