Orchids are a variety of flowing plants that produce colorful blooms and they are usually widespread. Cattleya Orchids were discovered by an amateur horticulturist known as Mr. William Cattley. In his tribute they were named after him. These genus has many species. They had various uses and were used as corsages by women in important events. People love their colors and fragrance and this is a more reason to grow them.

There are factors of the environment that affect development of plants. Light plays a major role. Too much exposure can be identified when there are no blooms produced and the leaves have a rich dark green color. Yellow- green indicates just enough. The amount should be sufficient to allow the right outcomes to be in experienced. They also require shade to shelter them from direct exposure. The amount of shade must be averaging about seventy percent around them.

They are referred to as epiphytes. Water is essential at the initial growth stage. They have rhizome, which is a horizontal growing stem that is continuous. This stem has adventitious roots. It needs a lot of water and as it grows until the pseudobulb which is a storage organ begins to appear vertically. When flowering commences, water should be cut off. It should only be added when it is depleted. Monitoring of the quantity required is important otherwise they die.

They make good house plants due their minimum water and soil requirement. They are therefore grown in many media. Clay pots can be used or any other desired by the grower.

The vessel should be large enough to allow at least two full productions and not oversize. After such a scenario, reporting is necessary. Roots should get cleaned from any moss. The vessels could be made of clay or any other suitable material. Ideally, it is a decision of the grower.

They require nutrients to grow. A fertilizer with low nitrogen content is chosen. High contents of nitrogen may cause decomposition and a vegetative kind of product. They also require flushing with water and since the media is limited death of the product occur. It is however necessary to keep minimal levels that will allow regular addition as it progresses.

The temperature, humidity and air movement should get taken into account. Although they trace their origin from the tropics which experience high temperatures, they are found on higher altitudes which are cooler. The aim of growing them is maintain optimum temperature which can be checked by feeling the leaves. Young tips are also damaged. This necessitates to keep humidity and air movement at optimum levels.

The species bloom differently. During a particular growing season, every pseudobulb occurring blossoms. These variety is the easiest to grow. As a result, there exists hybrids that are capable of flowering twice per year as compares to the species which produce only once. The grower should be able to handle them with all care so as to get reward for their effort and investment. It should also be noted that not all of them have smell.
