The desire to live in a comfortable and beautiful home comes naturally in human beings. Currently, home upgrading projects such as tiling of living rooms, kitchen, and bathroom are on the rise. Installation of tiles has the benefit of boosting the market value of the home. The process of custom tile flooring is easy when you take the right approach. You do not need to have experience, but you will have to research and consult a professional during the entire period of tiling. It is advisable to choose appropriate flooring materials that are within your budget.

The areas where the materials are to be fitted should be prepared for the installation process by cleaning. Both old tiles and cement backer board should be removed. A new cement backer board should be installed. Using a brush or a roller, apply a waterproof membrane that will keep the board strong even in presence of water. The waterproof liquid can be purchased from any tile dealer.

When the floor is clean, you can begin the process of fitting new tiles. You should have the right number of flooring materials. The correct number can be identified by using the measurements of the place you are intending to tile. Make sure you have extra material to account for those that will be damaged during the process.

Begin with the floor if you are tilling both the floor and the wall. This will minimize potential problems and present an opportunity to cut the material to fit your design. After identifying a vertical starting point, install a level board that runs from the right bottom end to the right top end. This mark will provide the base for installing the initial layer of flooring material.

Prepare a thin-set mortar that is suitable for your tiles. Prepare an appropriate thin-set by use of a drill or a mixing paddle. The preparation guidelines for the thin-set are available on the package. Before you begin to use it, make sure it has a consistence that resembles creamy peanut butter. The thin-set must be applied on the area that flooring materials are to be placed.

Your room will appear stunning when tiles are uniformly layered. Therefore, you must have a point of reference during the installation process. Materials that are larger than the available space should be trimmed.

The final stage is called grouting. It is done after the installation process. The materials are given twenty-four hours to set in properly. Mix the grout according to the manufactures instruction indicated on the package. Apply the grout in a sweeping motion and concentrate on the joints.
