Having to live with a skin that is itchy, with oozing blisters, with constant inflammation and chronic irritation can only be hell on earth. Believe it or not, but fifteen millions Americans suffer from these symptoms that are caused by dermatitis and another 20 million experience similar symptoms that severely impact on the ability of sufferers to lead normal lives. Luckily, there is an alternative treatment for eczema patients.

Much research have been done and millions have been spent but there is still no cure for this condition. In part, this is because scientists are not sure what the cause of the condition is. The condition can strike anyone, regardless of age, gender or race. Not every sufferer experiences the same symptoms either. The best that can be done, therefore, is to relieve the discomfort caused by the symptoms.

Medical science may not be able to cure dermatitis yet, but certain medication is available to help provide relief against the symptoms. Unfortunately many patients experience side effect and therefore rather depend upon other remedies. There are numerous natural remedies but their effectiveness depends upon the actual cause of the condition in each individual patient. To determine this cause is easier said than done.

It is thought that people suffering from certain types of allergy are more prone to develop dermatitis. Among the allergens thought to be responsible count feathers, pet dander, dust, detergents, some types of soap and a variety of perfumes. Food allergies can also serve as a trigger for the development of this disease. Dermatitis patients should consider undergoing tests for allergies.

Nobody doubts the fact that diet can also play an important role in the management of this condition. Patients are advised to avoid gluten and dairy. They should eat balanced meals that contain fresh, preferably organic vegetables and fruit. Many patients also benefit from taking vitamin B12 and Vitamin D supplements on a daily basis. Probiotics are also important and should be part of the diet.

A surprising percentage of dermatitis patients also suffer from very high levels of emotional stress. Such patients often benefit if they make life style changes that eliminate stress factors. It may even be beneficial to opt for therapy in order to identify the factors that are responsible for those high stress levels. Taking up yoga or meditation or even a relaxing hobby such as painting also seems to help many patients.

Even a cursory on line search will show that there are numerous natural remedies available. Patients should be careful when they consider such remedies, especially ones that promises a cure. It has been proven, however, that if coconut oil or sunflower seed oil is applied to afflicted areas of the skin relief is often experienced almost instantaneously.

Nobody doubts the fact that eczema patients suffer form symptoms that are extremely difficult to bear. They never know when the affliction will strike, or even where. Alternative remedies have helped numerous patients, but they should be tried with the utmost circumspect and only after gathering as much information as is possible.
