When the animals are in good health they of benefit to us. However, when they are experiencing some types of illness, they become unproductive. For this reason, there is great need to ensure that we take the necessary actions to make them healthy. Horses, in particular, are animals which are of great benefit to us consequently we need to monitor their health;hence, the reason for pain Relief for Horses.

There different categories of drugs which can be used to kill pains in these animals. To know which drug is suitable for the condition of your animal, you will have to seek advice from veterinarians or experienced animal keepers.

The nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs also called NSAIDs have over the years been the mainstay of equine analgesia for quite some time now. There are two commonly used drugs in this category. They include phenylbutazone and flunixin meglumine. These two drugs are very effective in the treatment of different ailments in the animals. Examples of such ailments include musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal and ocular pains.

Recent studies have also shown that a topical NSAID is effective in treating some pains and inflammation with considerably minimal side effects. This drug can again be used to improve mobility and in reducing lameness in the animals. It is important to note that each drug has a certain amount of chemical composition and level at which the chemicals causes toxicity. In this case, toxicity usually is as a result of overdosing these horses with medication.

Another group of painkillers is the opioids. The drugs work better when they are used in combination with other drugs such as the sedatives and tranquilizers. They mostly are applied while performing standing handling. Of importance is that they provide short term treatment and are usually applied by infusion. When overdosed, they cause harmful effects thus care should be taken while administering them.

Through research conducted in laboratories and clinics, it has been discovered that agonists are the best systematically used analgesics. They are usually used to kill pains when performing standing operations and also before subjecting them to anesthesia. Animals showing symptoms of colic may also be treated by these drugs.

Those who provide health care to animals have also considered ketamine as an equine pain management option. The drugs are useful in preventing upregulation of neuronal pathways. Meaning, the drug helps to prevent an increase in anguish within the body of the animal under the stated condition. These medicines are useful in reducing the sensitivity of the body of the animals to anguish. Studies have shown that when administered in small doses, provide relief to animals having chronic pain syndrome.

Apart from the manufactured drugs, there are some local drugs which also help managing pains. Lidocaine and carbocaine are examples of such local drugs. These substances can as well help to lower the doses of anesthetics which may be accidentally inhaled. Scientists are doing research to determine how these drugs operate.

Another local pain reliever is tramadol. This drug is believed to possess some opioid properties. This drug is commonly available in oral form. There are side effects associated with the drug such as trembling, sweating and excitement. Therefore, before using it, you need to consult your veterinarian.
