Essential oils are used for different reasons including their scent, physical benefits, therapeutic benefits and other personalized needs. They are regarded among the best medicinal options because they do not have side effects and can treat a range of conditions. However, some are too expensive for ordinary buyers. As such, there is need to find essential oil alternative that is affordable and still effective.

Rose is a common extract for aromatherapy and perfume production. It features high in the list of the most adulterated oils. However, difficulty in extraction makes its price out of reach for ordinary buyers. It would take a thousand petals to extract a very small quantity. To substitute Rose, geranium comes in handy. It contains a significantly high amount of alcohol and is also preferred by a large number of women for skin care.

The common name for Melisa is lemon balm since lemon is the extract used in adulterating it. Its extraction procedure requires the use of a lot of plants to get a significant amount of juice. Melisa is a common choice for aromatherapy. It also works perfectly in repelling insects indoors. Two alternatives can offer almost similar benefits. They are bergamot and lavender which are considerably affordable.

Neroli is popular with perfumers because it offers the much needed citric feel. In addition to being used in skin care, it offers excellent stress relieving properties. The options that can replace Neroli are very limited and include geranium for skin care and lavender as a stress reliever. For other benefits, you may settle for peppermint.

There are oils whose benefits are medicinal. Lavender is among the most popular extracts in this category. It produces excellent results whenever you need to manage skin disorders, disinfect shallow cuts, scratches, acne and insect bites. It has excellent scent properties that stimulate a good night sleep explaining its preference among aroma therapists. Such properties are difficult to match by any extract.

The most celebrated among oils is lemon. It works on the skin surface and inside the body. Lemon is perfect for restoring energy levels and stimulating lymphatic drains. It has a magical power of cleansing toxins from the body. It can promote neurological activities which have an effect of igniting fat breakdown. It is therefore used as a natural weight loss compound. A few drops in your drinking water will help sooth a sore throat.

Tea tree is a very potent essential oil in a class of its own. Its medicinal properties make it a choice for many in fighting bacteria, fungi and viruses. It works excellently in disinfecting wounds and has been used as a substitute for conventional medicine on several occasions. Tea tree comes with a synergistic element that protects the body from developing resistance against antibiotics.

Essential oils are impossible to substitute wholesomely. One can only choose the benefits to get from a particular extract since none can match the other. Do not replace prescribed medicines without the knowledge of your physician since this could result in negative side effects. When using these oils, follow the instructions to avoid harm and use them in moderation.
