The liver is involved in many metabolic, physiologic and synthetic functions of the body. For instance, it facilitates digestion by releasing bile juice. It also maintains the glucose levels within a normal range by converting excesses into glycogen and breaking this glycogen up when the need arises. This organ also plays a major role in the breakdown and excretion of toxins and drugs. To maintain it at optimal functioning capacity, a procedure known as liver flush is performed.

A number of risk factors have been known to increase the risk of hepatic impairment. Examples include reduced levels of potassium, the use of intravenous drugs, heavy alcohol intake, exposure to industrial toxins, autoimmune diseases and viral infections among others. When the liver is affected by disease, patients will be seen to exhibit a certain symptomatic pattern that may be characterized by bloating, constipation, yellowness of the eyes and skin, passage of dark urine and so on.

The flushing procedure specifically reduces the chances of gall stone formation and improves the process of digestion. Persons known to have some forms of allergies have reported reduced incidences of reactions to allergens with every cleansing. Another benefit is the fact that non-specific pain and chronic fatigue are said to improve and most people will experience increased energy levels and better psychological well-being.

Cleansing is preceded by a stage of preparation. Microorganisms trapped by gallstone need to be killed first before the cleansing procedure can be undertaken. This process takes about three weeks to allow for all the organisms to be eliminated from the system. It is also recommended that the individual undergoes kidney cleansing so as to make sure that the kidney is optimally functioning to be used in the removal of toxins.

Diarrhea usually sets in the next day. With good lighting, one can visualize gall stones in the stool. They usually have a deep green color that is different from that of food residue. Due to the high content of cholesterol within them, they tend to float while the stool sinks to the bottom. Repeat procedures are usually done after every two weeks. This provides adequate time for the remaining stones to move from the rear of the biliary tubing.

Raw vegetable juice is the most commonly used cleansing agent. The vegetables that may be used include cabbage, beets, cauliflower, cucumber, greens and carrots. Three or four of them blended together is usually sufficient for most people. One of the roles of these vegetables is to reduce the acidity level of the body. They have also been found to release a chemical called beta carotene that is converted to vitamin A.

Apart from these vegetables, there are several other foods that can be used. Foods rich in potassium such as sweet potatoes, bananas and beans are also quite effective in cleansing. They are also quite effective in lowering the levels of cholesterol in the blood which in turn reduces the risk of gallstone formation. Other foods that may be considered include black strap molasses, coffee enemas and milk thistle among others.

The general recommendation is that one should have cleansing at least two times a year. The good news is that the procedure is generally safe. One may feel a bit sick but this will resolve within a day or two. Avoid taking unnecessary medicines as much as possible as they could potentially put strain on the organ.
