Keeping the fireplace clean is an essential activity for a hazard free home. Chimney cleaning should be done frequently and in the right way to avoid disasters in homes. This maintains the fire system, and it retains the efficiency of the fireplace while keeping the home a fire free zone. It also prolongs the life of a fireplace and here are things to consider in the process.

It is an activity that can be done by an individual or with the help of professionals. If it is the person doing it on their own, they should know their way around the maintenance process. The process should be done at least two times a year for a frequently used fireplace. This will ensure that the dust particles that accumulate over the long periods are removed.

To clean a fireplace, there are specialized tools for the procedures. The tools that are required to clean the place are flexible rods to reach the exhaust area, a wire or poly brush for scrubbing, ropes, covering cloths and collecting buckets or dustbins. The other tools required are the ones to protect the person doing the cleaning. They include; a helmet, hand gloves, and masks. They protect from the rough surfaces, falling debris and dust particles.

The methods mostly used to conduct the procedures are top to bottom which is done with a flexible rod or rope, bottom to top method done with a flexible rod, dual line method that is done with both a rope and a flexible rod and lastly the weight method that is done using ropes and weights. The radius of the fire area to be cleaned will determine the method used for the whole process.

The passage way of the smoke is the largest surface area in a fireplace, and it is the hardest to reach since it is the space in the walls. It is the first area to be cleaned due to the area it covers and the hardness of the accessibility. It produces more dirt when brushed upon hence the first to be cleaned to avoid collecting of dirt after the other parts are clean.

After the smoke passage is cleaned, the fire place too should be checked. The grills that hold the fire wood and the ash should be cleaned. This will allow checking for the weakness in the area and if any replacements are required. Collecting the ash will ensure that there is enough space for the fire wood and area for the fire to light at.

The cleaning gear will protect the body of the person cleaning. The dust produced can cause allergic reactions in the body, and the mask stops the entrance of the dust into the body.

A clean fire place will reduce fire accidents and keep a home safe. With above guidelines, the fire place will be a comfortable area in a home setup.
