Health and diet fads come and go. Every six months or so there seems to be a new craze everyone is talking about. Then there are the foods that always seem to be on the healthy list. Natural teas are one of those. Even the ancient Chinese knew this drink had medicinal properties and had written about them before Christ walked the earth. Today, most people recognize that the iced tea Denver residents, and others, love so much are some of the healthiest choices around.

Black teas date back to the late fifteen hundreds in China. Today they are grown mostly in China and India. Aside from the taste, which many prefer to other varieties, people drink it for its antioxidant qualities and to remove toxins from their bodies. In comparison to coffee, it has less caffeine. It's great for your skin and hair and helps to keep you hydrated throughout the day.

Green teas are extremely popular because of their antioxidants and healing qualities. It is believed to be good for your brain because it protects neurons and boosts memory. If you have diabetes, your practitioner may suggest you include green teas in your daily diet. It is full of polyphenols and lowers blood sugar levels.

Yellow teas start out as green, and then turn yellow through a natural process. Growers steam the green leaves, which have been partly oxidized, under damp cloth. As the leaves dry, they turn yellow. These teas contain vitamins, amino acids, and polyphenols. They are believed to help prevent esophageal cancer and can aid in weight loss and, conversely, increase your appetite.

China and Sri Lanka are the main producers of white teas. They tend to be fairly expensive, but are worth it if you believe they reduce cancer risk. Dental professionals recommend them for good oral health, and they can protect your heart from attack. White teas have anti-aging ingredients and antioxidants. If you drink a cup of white tea every day you will notice a difference in your skin.

Rooibos or redbush teas are red and originated in South Africa. The leaves were first used commercially in the seventeen hundreds when the botanists and biologists began to descend on Cape Town to explore. The red teas are great for soothing headaches and preventing insomnia. People drink these teas to improve skin conditions like eczema. They can help asthma and allergy sufferers and reduce hypertension.

Less well known in the United States, but a staple in Japan, is brown rice tea. This drink combines green tea leaves with brown rice. It contains high levels of manganese and selenium. These are minerals associated with thyroid and nerve function. This tea can help regulate metabolism and stabilize blood sugar in the body.

All teas appear to have health benefits, no matter the color or origin. If you are going to drink it, you should consider purchasing the leaves from a company dedicated to offering it in its purest form. This is the way it was meant to be drunk and the best way to maximize its many benefits.
