A lot of maintenance must be provided for trees if they have to grow healthily. As much as the maintenance involves several activities, pruning also known as trimming is one of the most crucial activities. Human intervention in form of pruning does not apply to trees which grow freely in the forest since nature sees to it. On the contrary, trees planted on a landscape require care to maintain the required structural integrity and aesthetics. This is what Round Rock Tree Trimming is all about.

For trimming to be done correctly without damaging the tree, it is important that its biology is well understood. Doing this task improperly can lead to serious damage which may be impossible for the plant to recover from for its entire lifespan. Such damage may also significantly shorten the life of the plant involved.

As one trims, they should pay attention to which branches are removed and which ones are retained. This is because every cut has the potential of affecting the growth of the tree in some way. Thus, a branch should not be removed without a special reason. Three main reasons exist for removal of branches. These reasons include, reducing risk, removing dead branches, and improving form.

Branches can also be removed so that more light can reach the landscape below or other parts of the crown. In mature trees, branches are removed to serve as both corrective and preventive measure. The reason for this is that routine thinning has been determined to not necessarily lead to any improvement in health of trees. The plant needs to be inspected thoroughly before the job is started.

The inspection must be started from up the tree downwards as the inspector determines which branches to retain and which ones to remove. Similarly, the trimming must be started from the top moving downwards. Doing this prevents removal of branches that should otherwise not be removed. One of the major rules that apply in this job is not to cut more than a quarter of all branches.

When removing, one should target branches that are too big in comparison to the main trunk. The branches should be 30 percent or smaller than the main trunk. This is meant to ensure safety and reduce risk of the branch falling. If the plant is a deciduous one, the branches should not be removed more than 30 percent of the height from the bottom.

Majority of trees has one trunk. This means that a person has to determine which one is the major trunk in the event of multiple trunks. All defective parts which as easily identified must be removed first in case one is trimming for form. The cuts can then be painted for the sake of improving aesthetics. It is best to understand that decay is not prevented in anyway by painting.

It is important to have all the supplies and tools that one needs for the job before beginning. All tools should be sharpened and kept well. Branches that sit high on trees should be removed using pole pruners. Professionals arborists should be hired for major projects.
